diplomacy: festival of diplomacy

• What is the real essence of Diplomacy?
• Is it an exact science or an interpretative art?
• An exercise in courage or better yet, intelligence?
• In what way have delicate balances of power
changed the world?
• What role do mediators have in conflict negotiations?

These are just some of the queries that the first edition of the Festival of Diplomacy will try to answer. It will approach the questions through the elaboration of how this art originated from attempts to balance power, amid wars and peace negotiations, secret treaties and noteworthy events.

DIPLOMACY is a voyage

Across different Nations and their own personal ways of conducting national politics, touching on the most significant diplomatic initiatives, and the influences and interests that brought together and separated Nations.

Ideologies, values and ethical convictions, isolationism and interdependence, balance of power and of political control will all be discussed.

Rome will become the Capital of Diplomacy

In 1957 Rome was the site of the signature of the Treaty that gave rise to the European dream. More than 50 years later, the Italian Capital still proposes itself as a City of dialogue. In various locations that are strongly linked to the history of the great power of antiquity, from the Capitol Hill to the Ara Pacis, representatives of International Diplomacy will meet during events that will be attended by an audience of political scientists, journalists, university students and those interested in the subject.

The aim is to provide a new and original overview of Diplomacy and how it has influenced the history of humanity.

ROMA CAPITAL OF DIPLOMACY

"I think a city like Rome should plat as much as possible an international role, having hosted the signing of the European Treaty. The city has always been open to receiving and promoting initiatives which should improve the process of the European integration."
